What’s the best way to travel from Naples to Sorrento, Italy?

Question by : What’s the best way to travel from Naples to Sorrento, Italy?
I’m traveling in February and I’ve heard that Naples can be a sketchy place sometimes. I’m arriving in Naples from Rome by train, but what is the easiest way for me to get to Sorrento from Naples? I’ve heard about car services, local trains, buses, the hydrofoil (which I can’t find information on online).

Someone who has made this journey, do you have any advice? Also, what’s the best way for me to visit Pompeii?

Take the Circumvesuviana train. When you get to the train station in Naples, just follow the signs to the area where the Circumvesuviana trains arrive and depart. There’s a trip planner for the trains here: http://www.vesuviana.it/web/en The departure station is Napoli Garibaldi. The trip takes an hour give or take ten minutes depending on the specific train and costs 3.30 euro.

You’ll go right by Pompeii on the way to Sorrento. The stop is the Pompei – Scavi Villa Misteri station. It’s about a half hour from Sorrento and will cost 1.90 euro each way. The entrance to the ruins is a short walk from the station.

You can find schedules for the boats from Naples to Sorrento here:

I would just take the train.

Do the train like the first responder said. Do be very careful while at the train station in Naples and on the train ride out to Sorrento. Naples was the only place where we actually saw some of the scams you read about in tourist books (kids distracting you while the parent mugs you), so know where your money is at all times and make sure you still have it anytime someone comes close to you or bumps into you.

We stayed in Sorrento to visit Pompeii, which would have worked out perfectly had there not been a train strike. Trains still ran, but they only ran from noon to 4:30 so we had to do practically a running tour of Pompeii to see everything & make sure we caught the train to get out of there. The stop for Pompeii stops pretty much right in front of the place, and there’s luggage storage there too if you need it.
