I hear people were killed over a book on the camorra, is it true?

Experts say a new turf war involving rival gangs of the Camorra, the local organized crime network, is breaking out. There is talk of sending in the army.
And yet, it looks like business as usual around the city centre.
It is a national holiday, but greengrocers are selling fruits and vegetables on open-air markets. A youngster, high on cocaine, gets into a fistfight with a foreign immigrant outside the central train station. Most of the passersby ignore them.
In the main prosecutors’ building, chief anti-Mafia prosecutor Franco Roberti is facing another ordinary day of crisis. Two gangsters have been shot dead in nearby Torre del Greco.
‘What we are witnessing at the moment are rival bands that shoot at each other. There are feuds, revenges and retaliations,’ Roberti tells Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa. ‘Each clan controls its neighbourhood of origin and wants to expand into nearby territories. Hence the clashes.’
Roberti, 59, shouldn’t be in his office. He should be enjoying a day off with his family. But he can’t.
‘There are no holidays for me. I usually work on weekends too,’ he says.
Prime Minister Romano Prodi and Interior Minister Giuliano Amato are visiting the city to discuss the situation. They have promised to send an extra 1,000 policemen on top of the 13,000 that are already present.
Roberti says that’s fine, as long as the policemen are properly trained. His main concern at the moment is making sure his colleagues, some of whom have received death threats, are no longer forced to travel on old armour-plated cars that are falling to pieces.
Fighting the Camorra has always been a daunting task.

I wouldn’t be surprised. Automatically people think the mafia is the exclusive criminal society. The camorra is the same thing. In hard fiscal times this kind of thing will surface or be used as a distraction to take the public’s mind off the troubles at hand. It usually leads to high government and it’s appendages anyway. As it is anywhere in the world. Until the day evil is completely destroyed, you’ll see this kind of thing. Now, it’s just falling apart, in a way. But so are it’s mooring posts. If a book has anything of substance to say on this subject it’s unusual that it should trigger so extreme a reaction even from hardened killers. I’m more of a mind it’s something other. The success of career crime in America all the way to the halls of power, oddly enough, has been to avoid undue manifestations of itself. Isn’t it striking, if you believe this kind of thing, that the devil, operates the same, exact way?
